What was your first inspiration to design graphics? What inspires you now?

Hmm, first inspiration was CYN. I had a desire to design everything myself, instead of just using the default or a premade template. So I poked around at other design forums (which there were a ton, at that time) and gradually taught myself how to create what I wanted. Now my inspiration is basically my environment and what I come into contact with. Music, movies, television shows that I like... or just simply seeing a work of art that totally captivates me and wanting to know more about the process of creating it.

Looking at other people's work. I always say to myself, "I want to learn how to do that". Then, when I set my mind to it, I learn from tutorials and request help at forums. The result might not be perfect after the first attempt, but it's a good start which should eventually lead to better.

Saw other people's work, mainly their signatures and skins for forums. Thought they looked cool and wanted to make them too.

My inspiration to learn comes from seeing people like yourselves posting awesome graphics around forums.

My first inspiration came from a design site called SSD, they are closed now. However nowadays I get inspired by a lot of things, nature, people, other graphics etc.

I get inspiration from EVERYTHING. We got a flyer through our door a few weeks ago for a new restaurant opening in the area, and the first thing I noticed was how nice the colour scheme was. I once got inspiration for gradients from the graphics on the Sky Sports channel.
With reference to inspiration from other people's work, do you think there's a risk of copying? I've done it myself before, where I see a forum skin and try to do my own version, then it ends up looking pretty much the same. As a designer, I'd probably be quite happy for people to try their own version, because at the end of the day, you're helping them with their designing journey. Obviously assuming the original designer is aware and is referenced.

Everything around me inspires me, music, movies, books, games, other graphics and websites. I get inspired all the time, but I lose the motivation sad I know.

I take mini breaks all the time when i start loosing it.. like my forum its no where near done and i stop walk around if i start to get a mental block.. even now im taking a break and coming here to post and see whats new.. one of you could simply spark a new idea for my forum and dont even know it.. when im out and about i look, read, hear things that could inspire me i just write em down in my phone for a later day.. who knows when that idea will mature and manifest into a better one... i even look at my old work and think how could i make it better that is always a great way to inspire yourself
