What program would you recommend for a beginner who's want to learn graphic design?

Photoshop was the easiest program to learn for me. A lot of people start in Paint. Photoshop is easy to use, and there are tons of tutorials out there that go step by step in teaching you how to design something.

One problem Teg - Photoshop costs an arm and most likely a leg (that's the upgrade cost). I started off with GIMP, and eventually moved on to PhotoShop.
I never did any decent work with Paint, unless you want to count a stick figure, lol.

Gimp can basically do the same things as Photoshop, only major difference it's free. So I would go with Gimp, unless you don't mind spending money.

This is true, however they offer tons of free trials and with what she does for a living she can probably get any computer software for a discounted price.

Photoshop is the best program. GIMP is also cool and it's free.
