What is your design program of choice? Would you recommend it to beginners? Why or why not?

Mine is Photoshop and has always been Photoshop. I tried Paint Shop Pro (PSP) when first starting off and I can say that I would not recommend that to beginners. It was confusing and not user-friendly at all. I actually started out using Adobe Photoshop Elements, and that's what I'd recommend to beginners. It helps you to get to know the program better, while still not getting too complicated too fast. But there's no problem starting off with the full Photoshop either, there are plenty of tutorials out there on the internet that can help with getting to know the program. That's how I learned also, just googling "Photoshop tutorials" will bring a multitude of results.

Currently I use Adobe Photoshop CS6 Extended.
For free ones, I'd recommend GIMP. It seems to be the best that's out there right now, for the price, if you're looking for something similar to Photoshop.

GIMP is one of the best free options for design. It doesn't have as many features as Photoshop but you can accomplish a lot with it. Photoshop CS6 is my program of choice. It looks intimidating at first, but it has any easy-to-learn interface and many tutorials available online.

If you are advanced, and do not wanna spend money, GIMP is good..
If your just beginning, i recommend PhotoScape.

I learned to design using PaintShop Pro. It's really simple to use and you get great effects. I still use it now, but have the tendency to use PhotoShop!

Since I am not much of a graphic designer, I use GIMP. It does have a lot of features if you really know how to use it.

I personally, like a lot of people, use GIMP. Most of my graphics are for my website, so it gets the job done nicely.

I use Photoshop and have for years. I've actually utilized Paint more lately for small edits though but PS is always the first option.

Photoshop is really the only way to go and I dont get why you wouldn't want to use it unless you want a free software. GIMP is the way to go for free, so if your a beginner download GIMP and make sure you would actually use photoshop.

I use photoshop and gimp. Gimp started me on my web design career and now I use photoshop for all my projects. I would not recommend PS for beginners because it can be a bit difficult to use so I'd use gimp if you're a noob to web or graphic design.
